A Thompson family favorite and a party staple. Gooey, melty, with a slight crunch. Carmelades are layered dessert bars that have an oatmeal crumble, chocolate, and caramel - aka the perfect combination!
Ingredients
- For the Oat Crumble:
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups brown sugar
- 1 ¼ cups butter, melted
- ½ tsp baking soda
- Pinch of salt
- For the Caramel Sauce:
- 1 bag of soft caramels, unwrapped
- 7 ½ tbsp milk
- 1 bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350F. Grease a 9x13 baking pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt. Mix until combined. Add in the melted butter.
- Place half of the oat crumble mixture into the greased baking pan and spread it out evenly. Bake the bottom crust for 10 minutes.
- While the crust is baking, in a microwave safe bowl, add the caramels and milk. In 30 second increments, microwave the caramel mixture. Once melted, slowly and carefully stir until well combined and smooth.
- When the crust is finished baking, spread the bag of chocolate chips on top of the oat crust. Then pour the caramel mixture on top of the chocolate chips. Crumble the second half of the crumble mixture on top evenly.
- Bake for 20 minutes until lightly golden brown.
- Let the caramelades cool completely before cutting and devouring!
Enjoy!
