This apple pie is not exactly the same as grandmas because it has a buttery crumble as the top layer. The perfect level of natural sweetness from the apples with the different crust textures, you will want to eat this apple pie all year round.
Ingredients
- 1 pre-made pie crust, either store bought or homemade
- For apple filling:
- 7 apples peeled, cored and sliced
- ¼ cup all purpose flour
- ¼ cup sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- For butter crumble topping:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ⅓ cup sugar
- 8 tbsp butter (1 stick), room temperature
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375F.
- For the pie:
- Place the premade pie crust into the pie pan. Puncture a few times with a fork to allow air to flow.
- In a large mixing bowl, add the chopped apples, cinnamon, sugars, and flour. Mix until well combined.
- Add the apples to the pie crust and spread the mixture out evenly.
- For the crumble topping:
- In a mixing bowl, beat the butter and flour until smooth and creamy and it forms a crumble consistency. I like to use my KitchenAid mixer, but a handheld mixer works as well.
- Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly on top of the apples.
- Bake the pie for 40-45 minutes until the crumble is light brown. If the bottom crust starts to over bake, you can cover the edges with tin foil.
- Let the pie cool for at least 10 minutes before cutting and serving.
Enjoy!
